Coffee-cup calorimeter is also known as simple calorimeter.It is used to measure the heat released in non-combustion reaction such as heat of solution.Is is a constant pressure calorimeter.How do it works?
- This calorimeter consist of a known mass of water in an insulated container.It is also equipped with a thermometer and a stirrer.
- The initial temperature of water is measured.
- Usually the process that take place in this calorimeter is the addition of acid and base (neutralization).
BOMB CALORIMETER
Bomb calorimeter is used to measure the heat released in combustion reaction.In this calorimeter, no heat enter and leaves the calorimeter.How do this calorimeter works?
- The initial temperature of pre-weighed water bath is noted
- The sample is ignited electrically
- Heat released from the combustion is transferred to the rest of the calorimeter
- The maximum temperature is measured
